Jenn and Sam met in high school. Three years apart in age, their two best friends happened to be brother and sister. Sam asked Jenn out at a Halloween party in 2002 hosted by Emily & Ian, the brother and sister duo responsible for introducing them. Eight years later, Sam took Jenn to her favourite restaurant where a bouquet of roses was waiting at the table. When the cheesecake dessert arrived, there was an engagement ring on one of the strawberries. “Before I could really process what was happening, Sam was down on one knee asking me to marry him,” says the bride.
The couple married on August 18 at the Ancaster Old Mill in Ancaster, Ont., before 165 guests. Their favourite part of the wedding was their personalized wedding vows. “We found that the month before our wedding was a very stressful and busy time for us,” says the bride. “Taking the time to express how we felt about one another was a great reminder of what this day is all about.”
Another highlight was the caricature artist. He was highly recommended by a friend and the couple thought this would be a unique touch to their wedding. During cocktail hour and for a few hours after dinner, Jay Sese drew caricature portraits of all of their guests. “He was very personable and entertaining and the guests absolutely loved taking their pictures home at the end of the night.”
In lieu of favours, the newlyweds made a generous donation to a local charity in Brantford called Light a Smile.
